In November 2019, Joe Meiman and Imasiku Nyambe traveled to Imasiku’s home village of Kalenge. Over the course of three days we successfully installed four sandpoint wells. We are not afraid to admit we are learning how to do this better. For example we now know it is perfectly acceptable to ask the Village Headman to have holes dug to the water table, so the tripod and weight are not needed to drive the sandpoint and pipe; all you need is a manual post driver! We also know that the cheap cast iron pumps installed in November will not be the way forward. We will still use simple hand pumps, but ones designed for extreme duty.

Since Kalenge Village is not on the map, copy and paste these coordinates -16.287585, 23.173249 into your favorite online map.

We would like to thank the genuine hospitality and spirit of the people of Kalenge Village. They refer to their village as “Eden”. A few days in the village with these beautiful people provides ample evidence.
